From the moment you view those lines on the pregnancy test, the planning and preparing begins! So much research, time and effort goes into preparing for baby’s arrival during those 9 months of pregnancy, and sometimes the to-do list may seem to be never-ending. But, I think that there is one thing that every expectant couple to should add into that list of priorities ahead of baby’s birth …
A BABYMOON! I wish I had have known about this phenomenon way back when I was pregnant with my three kiddos, but I think it’s a more recent concept.
A babymoon is a vacation taken by expectant parents before the arrival of their baby, and it can be a wonderful idea for several reasons:
1. Bonding Time. Whether it’s a quick overnight getaway, a weekend away or a longer vacation - a babymoon offers the couple a chance to spend quality time together, strengthening their bond before the new arrival demands much of their attention.
2. Relaxation. As any woman who has experienced pregnancy can attest - it can be both very physically and emotionally taxing. A babymoon can provide an opportunity for both parents-to-be to rest, relax, and recharge before the adventure into parenthood officially begins!
3. Memory Making. Creating lasting memories during this special time as a couple can be cherished for years to come! Bonus: Choose to book a portrait session with a professional photographer during your getaway to ensure your memories are frozen in time and can be enjoyed in print form for years to come!
This past June, I had the privilege of capturing a lovely couple expecting their first child. They ventured from the GTA to Sauble Beach for their babymoon getaway and commissioned me to shoot their maternity session to commemorate the pregnancy. They were booked in to stay at The June Motel (which happens to be the cutest motel in the area!), and we both agreed that it was an excellent spot to complete the portrait session. I absolutely adore the decor and overall vibes of the June Motel - from the lobby, to the motel rooms, and the outdoor property … it was such a pleasure shooting there!
Fortunately the getaway and portrait session happened when it did, because I learned just yesterday that baby boy decided he’d make his grand debut several weeks earlier than expected! Despite the early arrival, I am told that everyone is doing well. A huge, happy congratulations to them!! I’m thrilled that this couple will have these photos to look back on and cherish for years to come!
