Simplistic Birthday Sessions

I am currently in my 10th year in business (which is so crazy to me!). Over the years through gaining experience, trying new things, and honing in on my craft, I have developed my own personal style. I feel that the way that I style, shoot, and edit my sessions plays a significant role in why people choose to work with me.
It’s no secret that I LOVE photographing babies! And part of my personal style is to photograph them “simply.” Although I love incorporating textures and simple props into my baby-focused sessions, I do prefer to keep my set-ups clean and timeless. I take the same approach for First Birthday/Cake Smash sessions. I have tried many different set-ups, themes, and colour combinations over the years, and have always implemented the requests of my clients … but to be honest - I 1000% prefer a minimalist approach to these milestone sessions. Keeping it simple not only limits the distraction for baby on set, but it also keeps baby as the main focus of the images. I love creating set-ups that consist of neutrals and softer, muted tones. And I do often include a bit of celebratory flare into each set-up, without going into full-blown “party” mode. Using a simple banner, florals, or twinkle lights adds a bit of visual interest without going over the top. I have found that this approach allows me to create sweet baby-focused images that will stand the test of time.
My goal is not only to provide you with beautiful photographs to commemorate your little one’s First Year milestone, but I also aim to offer a memorable and easy experience! Birthday sessions take a lot of pre-planning and prep work … and let’s face it - they can get very messy! But I’m happy to take it all on … the planning, the set-up, the mess and clean-up - ALL OF IT!! As a parent of the birthday child, you don’t have to worry about a thing! After coming up with a mutual plan for the set-up, I work closely with my cake vendor to ensure that the cake (or donuts) will complement the backdrop that I have created. And to ensure all aspects of the session are taken care of, the studio offers a selection of outfits so that you are able to select one for your little one to wear during his/her special milestone session. A post cake-smash bath in my vintage tub is also offered as a means of cleaning up baby, while allowing another opportunity to capture some cute images!
